Broke my , supposedly , indestructible Moser Dana 60 with every goodie and upgrade available they had to offer last year.
The original gear set was a 430 Pro gear set up but those seem pretty hard to come by now so I had to go to the 456 Pro gears. I was wondering what things should I expect by making the switch ?
Reaction time - 60's - and overall ET should theorectically pick up a couple with the exception of running a slightly higher RPM at the stripe ? Or is the difference between the two gear sets so minimal I won't notice a thing ?

In the vega we went from 4.56 to 4.86 gears and there wasn't a noticeable ET change either. We picked up about 500 RPM in the traps though.

Dave, you should only see RPM change not an Et change. I don't know about 8-3/4 gears but my 9" Ford I went from 3.89 to 4.56 and the Et stayed the same. I was wasting PRM going through the traps at around 7,000 RPM so I split it and put 4.11's in and RPM through the traps went to 6,200 with about the same ET.Different car and combo but my experience.

Yeah - Last race at BIR right before my bye run i coasted in neutral with the motor off and heard that awful sound we all hate to hear knowing the ring and pinion is not 100%. I checked it out when we got home and two pinion teeth were sheared in half.
Now that you mention it Joe - The Coronet has 456 gears with a lot more torque and a lot more horsepower then we do. He has ran that same set up forever without a problem. You may be on too something there. Even worse try the 8 3/4 430 gears. I could only get 15 passes out of those and it took the tranny with it every time. Tom Elmer - same result with 430 gears. Hmmmmmm. I'm going to 456.

I stand corrected. Sounds like pretty much the opposite of what I posted!

Dave are you serious? When did you break them? I have only gone through 5 sets and I'm convinced it's a ratio issue. By the way Tony, the Dana 4.30 ratio are 10/43 teeth. All mine have had the same problem - cracked pinion teeth.

It is a pretty small change. Your 60' will probably get quicker by .01, MAYBE .02. It has been a few years now, but I want to say our 60' only slowed down .02 when when we went from 4.56 to 4.10. RPM will be up about 200; ET should be slightly quicker unless it already had it's tongue hanging out.

Sorry to hear about the breakage. 4.30 sets are usually pretty strong with only 39 teeth on the ring gear.
