fru·i·tion
1 - Realization of something desired or worked for; accomplishment: labor finally coming to fruition. 2 - Enjoyment derived from use or possession. 3 - The condition of bearing fruit. |

Posted - 04/10/2008 : 01:02:44 Sorry Joe, It basically means "Gone Bananas". Or is it "Goin' Bananas"? Well I'm sure it's one of the two.

Posted - 04/09/2008 : 10:08:51 I recall seeing that "Minnesota Green" car a few years ago too---not sure if it was the original driver or not...but it was cool to see.
I have a picture as well, of me actually sitting behind the wheel of "the Snakes" Army funny car---was pretty much hooked on racing since.
My family and I would go often to watch Al Dancer, Donald "Buck" Dancer, Jack Machula and Joe Bulk. My Dad worked with Al Dancer and Joe Bulk at NSP, and went to school with Machula. And of course, I own "Old Habits" which Al Dancer built and drove for a few years.

Posted - 04/09/2008 : 09:38:39 Dave, it sounds like your dad was a pioneer in child psychology. I didn't think the "every kid gets a trophy" phenomenon arrived until the 1990s.

Posted - 04/08/2008 : 22:06:51 I actually saw the "Mn. Green" car at the track a few years back. Everyone was in awe and excited to see an old time race car back at the track again. I didn't know the guy but I do remember seeing it a very long time ago. My first race ever attended was in 1972 at Mn. drag ways. I was two years old. I remember the "TOP 10" was a big deal and saw Don "The Snake"s Army Funny car go down the track. My dad had so many trophies back then that he would actually get all the neighborhood kids together and organize "Big Wheel" races to give them away and award the winner with one of those big trophies. After a while he pulled me from the races - I kept winning them back. That plan backfired a little. Do ya think a racers kid would actually give up the stripe to his buddies ? NO WAY ! Eventually the front tire on that big wheel ended up completely demolished and that was the end of that but it was a lot of fun and everyone got a big trophy anyway. It was fun too be a kid.

Posted - 04/08/2008 : 20:55:31 Yeah, I called my dad on the way home from work to get the story straight. It was Eastie that traded his '67 Chevelle to Michael for the ex-Morton Beretta. Not to be confused with the "Race Riot" Don Ness Beretta that Michael raced. The last time I saw that car was at an IHRA divisional with Forrest Lipke of Wisconsin behind the wheel.
The ex-Morton Beretta is now in Ohio or Indiana.

Posted - 04/08/2008 : 20:32:50 Tony, as far as that Barreta goes I believe Mike Morton started the car buying an original Zeeker chassis and was planning on building the car but it never came to fruition and he basicly sold the project to Michael Young who finished the car.

Posted - 04/08/2008 : 18:30:20 Does anyone remember the Ache'n for Bacon dragster that came to the track in the back of a school bus? Was that a guy named Mike Larson??? How about the black big block chevy slingshot dragster where the driver sat with his jewels draped over the differential? I think his name was Roger. I remember Bud Champ being the man to beat back in those days. Also Walt Shumacher owned bracket 3 back then. I will never forget the Henry Weibush Blue Thunder car and Ed Holmgren's 69 camaro that Chuck Roycraft still drives today. |

Posted - 04/08/2008 : 15:43:32 I have to correct on 1 thing Russ- It was a 455 buick in that pic, he switched from the 430 when he switched from burgandy paint to candy apple red. As far as all those old racers/pics mentioned in other replies, i have a bunch mentioned that herb will be posting on here soon (if i ever get them to him!!)

Posted - 04/08/2008 : 15:28:00 I have a picture of Gus's Vette on my home PC. I found it when looking at some pics from the US Nationals in the 70's.
I haven't seen the Blue Angel in awhile, but there is a reminder of it in the form of a small dent in the Nova's bumper from where he backed into it in the pits a few years ago!

Posted - 04/08/2008 : 14:30:22 Kind of like the "Good 'ol Days" of PRO Wresteling....Crusher, Vern Gagne, Baron Von Rashkie, Buck "Rock-n-Roll" Zumhoff, Nick Bockwinkel...etc.
Of course, I remember seeing Monkey's Toy, 'Lil Duster, Allen James....back in those days too--------and I've had a chance to race them. And how can I forget Gus Pflipich's Modified Vette----that 5-speed would yank the wheels still in 3rd!!!
Speaking of Monkey's.........anyone heard from Mr. Robinson lately? And that Monkey Shacker car---what happened to that car? As well, the Blue Angel........I haven't seen that car in years.
And "jerry"....where is he.....
